Catalan newspaper Sport have an update on the health of Lionel Messi ahead of the trip to Celtic Park. Barcelona are set to face Brendan Rodgers’ men on Wednesday evening, and would of course rather do so with Messi than without him.
Sport say that Messi has been given an official medical discharge, meaning he’s no longer under the care of the doctor involved, and is fit to travel to play Celtic. However, the newspaper then add: ‘He will travel to Glasgow with his teammates but is still undermined by the aftermath of the virus.’
Messi and Barcelona are currently travelling to Glasgow, and they’ll train at Celtic Park on Tuesday evening. Sport point out that Andres Iniesta, Jeremy Mathieu and Samuel Umtiti didn’t travel.
There’s also concern about the fitness of Gerard Pique and some doubt over whether he’ll be fit to face Celtic. The Spanish defender wasn’t able to training on Monday, so all eyes will be on Celtic Park tonight to see if he’s having a run out before the match.
