The agent of Salernitana forward Massimo Coda has told the Italian media he tried to get his client a move to England during the summer. Leeds United were linked with the player in the last window, following talks with the sporting director of the Serie B side.
Salerno Granata have reported on comments Beppe Galli made to Italian TV last night when asked about the future of Coda. Galli confirmed in the summer Salernitana were looking to offload the attacker, and a move to England looked to be the best option for the player. However, Coda’s agent said they couldn’t get a move sorted, although he revealed he’s still happy to be with his current club.
“In the summer Salernitana asked about €3m for his move. The hope was that he could go to England but this didn’t happen. He is happy to stay in Salerno and he’s very attached to these colours,” aid Galli on the Leeds United target.
During the last transfer window, we covered reports from Italy that Massimo Cellino was showing an interest in Coda, and was hoping to pull off a deal with the Serie B side before the deadline.
Despite no offer coming in from the Championship side it was claimed officials from Leeds United held meetings in Milan with the sporting director of Salernitana to thrash out a deal. However, Leeds United’s approach came too late in the window, so a deal couldn’t be done in time, and perhaps the €3m fee was deemed too high.
Salernitana have since reacted to the Leeds United efforts, and tied down their star man, although he continues to be linked with a move away. Given the Crotone interest and the possibility of a transfer still there, Leeds United’s owner Massimo Cellino is probably keeping an eye on the situation.
