At the start of the transfer window, Anderlecht and Genoa showed interest in Rennes’ James Léa Siliki. Norwich City were also keen on the midfielder.
Watford joined the chase for the 24-year-old and two days ago, L’Equipe reported the player’s ‘preferential wish’ is to move to Vicarage Road.
It was also explained the Hornets will face tough competition from other suitors to sign the Frenchman, who is available on loan with option to buy.
Friday’s edition of L’Equipe has a report on Léa Siliki and explains he was close to Genoa and Anderlecht at the start of this month. However, the player is now ‘sensitive to the interest of Watford’.
The Championship side have previously done business with Rennes, having signed Ismaïla Sarr in 2019.
Watford agreed a deal worth €30m plus €5m in bonuses. The newspaper states the English club have ‘not yet settled’ the entire amount of the operation.
Xisco Muñoz’s side have ‘not lost hope’ of resuming talks with Rennes president Nicolas Holveck, but it’s not clear whether it’s related to the Sarr deal or regarding Léa Siliki’s signing.
The report also says an unnamed Spanish club have positioned themselves for Léa Siliki.
