Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Bayer Leverkusen hasn’t really been catching the imagination of the German sport media, despite the Manchester Evening News running the story for several days.
Now Kicker have moved up a gear and report that they’ve been able to back up the claims coming from England. As they have it, the 23-year-old is ‘about to sign’ for the Bundesliga club.
The transfer, which is expected to happen this month, is ‘well advanced’ and Fosu-Mensah would get the minutes he’s looking for in both the short and medium term.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, who has been with the German club since 2009, is retiring at the end of the season despite being just 31-years-of-age. Therefore, taking the Dutchman from Manchester United is seen as potential cover for that scenario, although Fosu-Mensah will also be expected to feature this season.
It’s likely Bayer will ease their new signing in, should the move be completed, and then look for him to play a bigger role in the 2021/22 season.
There’s no mention of a buyback clause for Manchester United.
