Rumours, largely fed from England, of West Ham interest in Real Madrid’s Mariano have been welcomed in Spain on Monday.

Having sold Sébastien Haller to Ajax last week it’s now inevitable that the Hammers will be linked with every conceivable option to replace him. Even prior to the Haller exit, David Moyes’ side were being linked with strikers, so that’s only been given further encouragement.

Agents will also be at work, aware West Ham will be looking for a signing and ready to push their clients forward for a winter move.

Mundo Deportivo cover the English claims and point out that at that end it’s thought Mariano would be keen on a move to the Premier League.

However, it’s fair to say that’s not the general stance in the Spanish media. Monday’s edition of AS states the ‘exit door is open’ for Mariano, so West Ham would have a red carpet laid out for them.

That’s from Real Madrid’s perspective, and unfortunately Mariano sees it differently. Despite Los Blancos trying to sell him in recent windows, the striker has been against a move, quite happy to see out his contract which lasts until June 2023.

Whilst the Hammers are likely to get a positive response from Real Madrid, it sounds like they’d need to do some work on the player, regardless of what is being claimed in England.
