Former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo has revealed the ‘huge change’ it was for him moving to the club, and the important message Didier Drogba imparted on the club’s youngsters.
The Argentine spent two years at Stamford Bridge after arriving in a £4m deal from Audax Italiano in Chile, eventually leaving for Wigan in 2010.
His time at the club would be a less than successful one for him personally as he managed just 16 appearances and one goal for the club in total.
It wasn’t all negative, though, with the striker a part of the FA Cup-winning side in 2009 and featuring in the Champions League as well.
It was the latter who made the most telling impression it seems, with Di Santo revealing all in a recent chat with Clarin.
“The arrival at Chelsea is one (moment he keeps),” he told the newspaper.
“I went from a humble team in Chile to one of the best in the world. In three months, I was in a Champions League final. It was a before and after for me.
“(It was) unbelievable. It was a huge change. I’m always going to redeem Drogba as a person.
“He gave us kids the idea of being a better person than a player.
“He always aimed more at the collective than the individual.”
