Summer 2017: Alvaro Morata was supposed to be swapping Real Madrid for Manchester United, and Romelu Lukaku was set to move from Everton to Chelsea.
That’s how the saga went for some weeks, with Everton holding out for as big a fee as possible, and Real Madrid naturally taking the same course of action.
In the end, Morata’s move to Old Trafford failed and he want to Stamford Bridge instead, with Lukaku moving from Everton and Goodison Park to Manchester United.
The Belgian was the more successful of the two, yet it didn’t take too long before it became clear he wasn’t completely happy with the situation. With the Manchester club feeling a similar way, Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan in the summer 2019 transfer window.
He has more appreciation at the Serie A club and is able to work with Antonio Conte, the manager he nearly signed for at Chelsea.
Speaking to Belgium’s VTM about that failed move, Lukaku’s comments have been picked up by FCInterNews, and they quote him as saying: “One day, when my book is finished, I will reveal all the details. Many things happen in football, but it is important that the next generation have full control of their own destiny. The whole picture must be corrected.”
FCInterNews seem to believe he’s referring to his former agent Mino Raiola. Lukaku later switched from Raiola to Federico Pastorello, with the latter organising his move to Inter Milan.
