Celtic make ambitious move to sign defender – He rejects the opportunity

Celtic have seen an ambitious effort to sign defender Mattia de Sciglio from Juventus rejected by the player.

That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who suggest that the player simply wasn’t interested in the move to Scotland.

De Sciglio is on a list of players that Juventus are keen to move on before the end of the transfer window, with the Italian giants looking to raise funds and free up space in their wage budget.

Juve chief Fabio Paratici is working towards that end, according to La Repubblica, who say he is looking to ‘find accommodation’ for De Sciglio and Douglas Costa.

There had been a ‘survey’ from Sevilla for the full-back, but it seems this came to nothing as the newspaper claims ‘times are quite tight’, suggesting they couldn’t afford him.

The La Liga side are not the only ones to have made a move, though, with reports yesterday that Celtic had also made a bid for the 27-year-old.

This has been picked up on by Corriere, who state that the player has not found a ‘satisfactory solution’ after he ‘refused a proposal from Celtic’.

The newspaper don’t make clear what the nature of this proposal was, but it seems it was dismissed by the Italian either way.

That, though, shouldn’t take away from the ambition shown by Celtic, who really were aiming high with this effort.
