On Wednesday, we covered claims from Portugal that Anderson Arroyo was on the verge of signing for Tondela on loan.
The report came from Rádio Renascença, and has now been backed up by O Jogo. According to the Portuguese newspaper, the 20-year-old spent yesterday training with Pako Ayestarán.
Liverpool fans will certainly remember the name, given Ayestarán was assistant to Rafael Benitez at Anfield. Now in charge at Tondela, the Spaniard assessed Arroyo’s physical and technical condition, and it seems everything was as hoped for.
O Jogo say the general plan is for a season long loan, and there’s no mention of any buying option.
Liverpool signed Arroyo from Colombian side Fortaleza in January 2018. He was first sent on a six-month loan spell to Mallorca, and then spent the following two seasons at Gent and Mlada Boleslav.
In those three loans, it was only at the Czech side that he managed to get minutes for the first team. There will be hope that Arroyo can now progress under Ayestarán, and O Jogo say Tondela are ‘close to securing’ the transfer.
