With Leicester City seemingly very close to signing Timothy Castagne, Brendan Rodgers appears to be worried about the future of Ricardo Pereira at the club.
The right-back, who has been a great purchase ever since the Foxes spent £19.8m on him from Porto back in 2018, suffered a serious knee ligament injury in March, with his absence perhaps unsurprisingly coinciding with their poor run of form following the Covid-19 break, costing them a Champions League spot next year.
With such injuries tough to come back from and the start of the new season just around the corner, the signing of Castagne makes sense, but it also puts Pereira’s future in doubt.
The Portuguese was linked with a number of clubs prior to his injury, and that continues to be the case, as Paris Saint-Germain, who need to replace Thomas Meunier, are thinking about him.
It’s stated his price would be ‘around €30m’, but there are doubts about it.
There are worries he might struggle to find his old form, and they use Benjamin Mendy as the perfect example of this, meaning the money might be better invested elsewhere.
An alternative talked about a lot these days is that of Hector Bellerín, currently at Arsenal, and we’ll have to wait and see what comes of all this in the coming weeks.
A plus for Paris Saint-Germain is that Pereira knows Ligue 1 well, having spent two seasons on loan at OGC Nice between 2015 and 2017.
