Former Aston Villa forward Tony Cascarino believes his time at the club wasn’t that much of failure. Cascarino spent just over a season at Villa Park before leaving for Celtic.
Cascarino does believe he could have done better during his time at Aston Villa, but when he was starting to show some form he was shipped out by Ron Atkinson.
“I started badly but played OK in the second season, but Ron Atkinson came in and said I could go. I’d signed for Graham Taylor, but he took the England job, so I played under Dr Jozef Venglos. I could have done better, but it wasn’t a failure,” said the forward.
Cascarino played 46 league games for Aston Villa, scoring 11 goals. After Aston Villa, he had spells with Celtic and Chelsea with similar success, before making a huge impression in France with Marseille and Nancy.
