On Monday, we covered an article in Italy looking at the possibility of Inter Milan replacing Mauro Icardi following the drama that unfolded over the weekend.
The Argentinean striker’s autobiography was published, and in it were comments that displeased the Italian club’s ultras, to the extent where banners were created for the game against Cagliari and calls for him to be removed of his captaincy were heard.
On Monday, Inter Milan took action and fined the player for his comments, but Icardi remained as captain, which hasn’t gone down too well.
Tuttosport look at the situation and explain the coming months are crucial for the player’s future at Inter Milan, as football fans are relatively fickle and good performances could quickly make them forget this rather large mishap.
However, if the relationship between fans and the player deteriorate even more and Icardi struggles, a sale may be looked at, and a few clubs could be interested.
The Italian newspaper claim both Tottenham and Arsenal might be tempted by the possibility of signing him, but we’re not so sure about that.
Yes, the player is clearly talented, and, if given proper service, eases the ball in the back of the net, but there’s a lot of off the pitch drama that both clubs could, and probably would, do without.
Basically, it wouldn’t be surprising if both Pochettino and Wenger were put off by the constant circus surrounding the player if he were to be offered to them.
Furthermore, the price would have to be realistic, because, as good as Icardi has been, he hasn’t been €110m good.
Tuttosport say that If Inter were to sell, they’d have to come up with a ‘human’ price, because few, if any, would be prepared to pay his release clause.
