While contracted to Leicester City until 2022, it seems unlikely Rachid Ghezzal will stay that long at the King Power Stadium.
The winger, who was brought to the club by Claude Puel, never had the desired impact in the Premier League in his first campaign, and was swiftly sent on loan to Fiorentina for the season to get some game time.
That didn’t go to plan either, however, as the 28-year-old only managed to appear 12 times overall for the Serie A club, assisting his teammates just once in the process.
The Italians do have an option to buy in the deal with Leicester, but considering how little Ghezzal has featured, it would be surprising to see them trigger it.
Still, the player is enjoying his time in southern Europe, and is eager for the league to restart in hope of getting some game time.
That’s, in a nutshell, what the player’s agent, Theofilos Karasaviddis, told Fiorentina.it on Wednesday.
He said: “He is in Florence and has said many times that he feels good. Unfortunately, he didn’t play much because of the system. He is available and ready to give his best for Fiorentina. In the end, the decision whether to keep him or not is up to the club, but he is very happy.
“He came from a different league, where the playing style is different. I can say 100% he is very good in Florence and is very sorry he failed to prove himself. Fiorentina is a great team and he is now there to help them”.
With Serie A set to restart in the near future, there might be a final chance for the Leicester City loanee to impress, but unless something drastic changes, he will likely return to the King Power Stadium this summer.
