Jan Vertonghen is going to be a wanted man in the summer as he’s his final months of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Belgium international has been linked with a handful of Serie A clubs, while there’s also interest from La Liga, where Real Betis and Valencia are keen on the defender.

From Italy, AS Roma are one of the clubs who are looking at the centre-back.

TuttoMercatoWeb backs it up and explains Paulo Fonseca’s side have long been interested in the former Ajax man.

Having failed to land the Spurs player last summer, the Giallorossi have now ‘revived their interest’ in the 33-year-old.

Due to his contractual situation at the north London club, Vertonghen is going to be a ‘succulent’ free-agent in the upcoming window, and there was informal contact between Roma and the player two weeks ago.

Vertonghen demanded an annual wage in excess of €3m, likely after tax, which is ‘too high’ and has frightened the Italian capital club. Fonseca’s side would like a salary cap of €2.5m per season.

Time should tell whether or not José Mourinho’s man and Roma will be able to reach an agreement for the transfer.
