Here’s one more manager who could take charge of Newcastle United following the club’s takeover: Jorge Jesus.
It’s the Brazilian media reporting the Magpies’ approach for the Portuguese boss today, with two different sources having stories about it.
The first one was Goal. They say that while Jesus negotiates his contract renewal with Flamengo, he’s been told about Newcastle’s interest in having him. The manager was informed he’s one of the options along with Mauricio Pochettino.
Goal points out that Newcastle’s takeover has Pini Zahavi as an intermediate, and he’s the one who represents Jorge Jesus as well. The outlet also recalls that the Magpies made an offer for the manager last year, before he took charge of Flamengo.
Another outlet reporting Newcastle’s approach is Esporte Interativo. They first bring the claims from Goal, and then say they’ve managed to confirm the information.
Their report says the manager is currently working with ‘both scenarios’ ,of either renewing with Flamengo or taking charge of the Magpies. However, their headline says that staying at the Brazilian club is currently his priority.
Jorge Jesus had an impressive first year at Flamengo, winning both the Brazilian League and the Copa Libertadores in 2019. He’d be a bold choice for Newcastle, given he’s got such a big personality and a background of confrontation.
