With Newcastle United seemingly on the verge of becoming the wealthiest club in the Premier League, the silly season appears to have started early in terms of transfer rumours.
The Magpies are now being namechecked to every potential transfer around, with it widely believed they’re planning a huge summer overhaul courtesy of their new Saudi owners.
Big names such as Edinson Cavani and Philippe Coutinho have already been linked and the latest to join the list is Ajax’s Donny van de Beek.
According to Le 10 Sport, Newcastle have made ‘concrete progress’ on the midfielder in the last few days after seeing a ‘field of opportunities’ open up as a result of the potential Saudi funds coming their way.
The Dutchman ‘would be attractive’ to their future coach, who the website believes will be either Rafa Benitez or Mauricio Pochettino, and thus the Magpies are eyeing up a move.
Ajax are yet to receive an official bid from any of his suitors but are ‘awaiting’ their arrival, having ‘committed to listen’ to any after resisting bids for him last year.
The belief is that the player, who is managed by Mino Raiola, will ‘have no trouble’ securing himself a move.
Newcastle may want to move quickly if they are genuinely interested, though, with Everton also hovering after Carlo Ancelotti asked the club to consider van de Beek as an option.
