Everton have ‘checked’ on Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek after Carlo Ancelotti asked the club to look at him as a potential signing this summer.
That’s according to Le 10 Sport, who say the Blues are eyeing up a possible move for the 23-year-old Ajax star as they look for a midfielder this summer.
Their midfield is in desperate need of reinforcement, with the loss of Idrissa Gana Gueye to PSG last summer and Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s injury issues leaving them short in that area.
Napoli midfielder Allan has been heavily linked for several months given his links to Ancelotti, but according to Le 10, the Dutchman is another the Italian manager has asked the club to look at.
And that’s what they’ve done, with it stated they have ‘clear views’ of the 23-year-old after making ‘concrete progress’ on a move for him in the last few days.
Everton are yet to make a formal move, with Ajax ‘waiting’ for offers having ‘committed to listening’ to any that come this year after resisting efforts to lure him away last year.
It’s believed that Van de Beek ‘will have no trouble’ securing a significant transfer this summer as there are several options in front of him, including, it seems, Everton.
This is not the first time they’ve been linked, with the English press presenting him as a target for Marcel Brands back at the beginning of 2019.
He’s continued to shine since then, and there’s every chance the Blues Director of Football is lining him up, and hoping to take advantage of his relationship with Mino Raiola, as an alternative to Allan should that deal prove challenging to get over the line.
That would certainly make sense, with the 23-year-old fitting far better into Brands’ desire to sign up and coming talent than the 29-year-old Brazilian.
