ESPN Brasil have conducted an interview with Liverpool’s social media coordinator Felipe Maisonnave, who explained a bit about the club’s approach to South American fans.
Liverpool started their Portuguese language Twitter account on the same day Philippe Coutinho was signed, and they used the transfer as an opportunity to get closer to the Brazilian market.
“Fortunately, he has had a very good performance since he arrived”, said Maisonnave.
“Over the past two years, he took off in a way that he became not only the idol that he is among the Brazilian public, but also here in England, he is one of the most loved players by the fans here, people like him a lot.”
Speaking about the club’s social media growth in Brazil, he said: “In fact, Brazil is one of the fastest growing countries in relation to Liverpool’s scope. It’s one of those which grew faster around the world as well, being only behind some Asian countries.”
“Liverpool have almost one million Facebook followers from Brazil. It’s an expressive number, I believe some Brazilian clubs don’t have that much.”
The club employee also talked about Lucas Leiva’s success in his long Anfield career: “At the moment, with Skrtel’s departure, Lucas became the player with most time at Liverpool. He’s going through his tenth season now. Unfortunately he had many injury problems in his career here, but he is a very respected player by the crowd for his integration with the club, with the city. He became a Liverpool citizen, an English citizen.”
