Over the past year or so, you might have seen a number of reports that Leeds United could be bought out by Qatari Sports Investments (QSI), the same company that owns Paris Saint-Germain.
Numerous articles have been written on the subject in France, with many believing a deal was relatively close to being struck with Andrea Radrizzani, but the Elland Road club’s owner has taken time out of his schedule these days to play down the rumours.
Speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio in Italy, the Italian said: “They are rumours that have been around for over a year. Of course, there is an excellent relationship on a personal level, a desire to do something together, maybe even in football, but nothing concrete at the moment.”
He added: “Furthermore, in the past few weeks, everything has gone into the background. My desire is to make a great Leeds a main protagonist in the Premier League, and if to do that we need new partners, other than the San Fransisco 49ers, we’ll evaluate that when we are in that league.”
As things stand, Leeds United, managed by Marcelo Bielsa, sit top of the Championship after 37 games, picking up 71 points and have a one point lead on their closest rival, West Bromwich Albion.
Should the governing football bodies decide to keep the table as is instead of playing the rest of the league at a later date, then Radrizzani’s club would get promoted to the Premier League.
That’s a big if, however, and we’ll have to wait and see if his dream, and that of the rest of the Elland Road faithful, comes true.
