Celtic favourite Emiliano Izaguirre says he recommends players move to the club, but work permit laws make it difficult for Neil Lennon’s side.
Izaguirre enjoyed two separate spells with the Scottish Premiership champions, first joining them from Motagua Tegucigalpa in 2010.
He departed for Al-Feiha FC in 2017 before returning to Celtic in 2018 for another year in Scotland, eventually returning to Motagua Tegucigalpa in August last year.
His time in Scotland is still warmly remembered, with the Honduran having been a key player during his first spell.
He racked up 217 appearances at the club, winning seven Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two Scottish League cups.
He also enjoyed personal success, picking up the SPFA Player of the Year, SFWA Footballer of the year and Scottish Premier League Player of the Year in 2010/11 to boot.
It’s a move he seemingly encourages player of other players to make too, although Scottish rules make things hard in that regard.
“Sure, (I recommend Celtic) to many,” he told Diez when questioned about it.
“The problem is that in Scotland they only sign players who meet certain requirements.
“One of them is that the players have to have played several matches with the national team and that those national teams need to be in the top 50 rankings.
“If they’re from nations below the top 50, they don’t sign them.”
While that will undoubtedly be disappointing to hear for Celtic fans, they’re sure to be heartened by Izaguirre’s efforts to get them players.
It shows he still thinks as highly of the club as they do of him and perhaps that relationship will bear fruit for them at some point in future in the shape of a star signing.
