Describing Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as a man who divides opinion would only be putting it lightly.
The Argentine is a coach who is either regarded as a legend, with a brilliant style and charming personality, or a crackpot who doesn’t deserve the praise.
The vast majority of people who have worked with the Leeds manager fall into the former category, plenty labelling him the best they’ve ever worked with.
Junior Alonso is one such player. The Boca Juniors defender worked with Bielsa at French side Lille making 15 appearances under him during his ill-fated, short spell at the club.
While things didn’t exactly work out for Bielsa, it seems he made a positive impression on the Paraguayan, so much so, he’d love for him to turn up at Boca in the near future.
“Bielsa is the best coach I had in my career. I think he knows very well how to work and would help any club he runs,” he told El Show de Boca, relayed by El Intransigente.
“I do not imagine him at Boca, but if it happens at some point, he would be a revelation.”
Whether Bielsa does ever become available for Boca remains to be seen. He certainly seems happy at Leeds at present, and they’re more than happy with him as well.
However, the 64-year-old only has a contract until this summer, with no extension negotiated as yet, and that means his future is uncertain at present.
Should Leeds fail to secure promotion, or be denied it because of the ongoing situation with the Coronavirus, perhaps he would think now is the time for a change.
A return to his homeland would certainly appeal in such a situation, and it is easy to see a personality such as him thriving in the madness that is Argentine football.
