Last week, the Mexican media had several reports recalling the transfer of Javier Hernandez from Chivas to Manchester United.
It was because Angelica Fuentes, the ex-wife of former club owner Jorge Vergara, claimed that she handled negotiations with the Premier League side.
“I was the one who made that negotiation with the team. At the time it was very interesting, talking with the English, meeting Mr. Ferguson was something unique in my life, interesting, very correct, of a very high level of professionalism,” she told ESPN.
“Very prepared people, it was very interesting to take him, leave him and watch a game of Manchester United.”
During that interview, she also claimed that the striker had promised to end his career at the Mexican club: “I hope Chícharito will fulfil what he said one day, that when he returns to Mexico he will play for Chivas.”
But it turned out that some people involved didn’t really like what Angelica Fuentes has been saying. One of them being Chicharito, who also spoke to ESPN.
He first denied that she was the only negotiating the transfer, saying “it were Jorge and Angelica”. And also said she lied about his return to Chivas: “I never promised to retire at Chivas, nor did I leave to return here. That thing never happened.”
Then it was time for José Luis Higuera, who was Chivas’ director at the time of the Manchester United transfer, to go against Angelica Fuentes. He said he’d like to have a debate in front of her rather than listening to her interviews.
“It would be very interesting if you brought her to the table and she told me straight. It’s very interesting to say it in front of someone who can answer. I can tell you that it is totally false, foolish.”
