Valentino Lazaro moved to Newcastle United in the winter window on loan from Inter Milan.
The transfer quickly turned into something of a saga, with the player’s agent flying around Europe looking to get the best financial deal on offer. Initially Steve Bruce’s side weren’t able to provide what was wanted, and RB Leipzig came into the equation.
However, the Bundesliga club couldn’t or wouldn’t meet Inter Milan’s demands, and that sent Lazaro’s agent back to Newcastle to thrash out a deal.
Since the move, Lazaro has spoken about his intention to return to Inter in the summer and make a real go of things in Milan. Until then he needs to concentrate on Newcastle, and impress those in charge at the Serie A club.
Quoted by TMW, he explained why he feels Newcastle is a good fit for the player: “Inter studied him before taking him, one of his peculiarities is his tactical flexibility. The performance of Candreva and D’Ambrosio on the outside could have affected Conte’s considerations and decisions. The move to England? I don’t think there is another league like the Premier, in which all the matches are played evenly by teams like Newcastle, which is not a top club. Valentino can only improve, also given his age.”
Bruce will be hoping Lazaro can impress with the Magpies, and then if Antonio Conte doesn’t see a place for the fullback in the summer, talk of a longer term move will surely start.
