Zenit St Petersburg forward Artem Dzyuba has spoken to Russian TV channel Russia 24 and revealed his club received an offer from Tottenham Hotspur during the last transfer window.
As covered by Sport Express, the 31 year old said Zenit rejected an offer which came from the Premier League side: “When Harry Kane got injured, people contacted me about a move to Spurs. But Zenit refused the offer. I had conversations but the move never materialised. I think if Tottenham really wanted to sign me, then they would be more insistent. There was interest, but that’s all.”
Last month there were reports Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho was in the market for a No.9 after Harry Kane’s injury.
The Premier League side were linked with a number of centre forwards to fill the void left by the England captain, but instead they bolstered their attacking options by signing versatile PSV winger Steven Bergwijn.
Dzyuba has been linked with a move to Premier League in the past. Last year he made similar comments to the Russian press in which he claimed Everton were looking to sign him.
He’s made 19 appearances for Zenit in the Russian league this season, scoring 11 goals.
His contract will expire at the end of this season.
