As with all major international tournaments, Euro 2020 will be one in which many players look to put themselves in the shop window.
It’s the perfect time to do so, with clubs, managers and everyone in between likely to be watching the tournament and keeping an eye on players.
That was certainly something that Joao Santos, the agent for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, was hinting at this week.
Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, he stated that he believed his client would be the subject of ‘important proposals’ this summer and they would be talking to Chelsea about any that came.
He later hinted heavily that Juventus would be one of those clubs, given the links with former manager Maurizio Sarri.
Well, these comments have naturally led to more claims, and Corriere dello Sport cover the affair today. Their stance? That it’s the agent trying to stir up interest.
In an article covering both Jorginho and Paul Pogba, the latter is also continually linked with Juventus; they explain that the Frenchman may be an ‘impossible’ dream, but the Chelsea man is ‘achievable’.
A potential move could ‘take off at the end of the season’ for the midfielder, who is ‘very loyal’ to Sarri.
However, the possibility of it happening is something that has been ‘inaugurated’ (read started) by his agent with his comments this week.
Corriere say the prospect of signing Jorginho is ‘certainly interesting’ because he’d fit perfectly into Sarri’s system and wouldn’t need teaching having played in it before.
However, ‘it should be remembered’ that he has a contract with Chelsea until 2023 and Frank Lampard has ‘entrusted him with the keys’ to his midfield this year.
The insinuation from the newspaper is that, while a potential deal should not be ruled out as there’s plenty of reasons it can happen, it’s very much the agent trying to stir things up at this stage.
