Earlier today, we covered reports from Brazil which said Everton Cebolinha would stay at Grêmio for at least a few more months.
After scoring twice in the comeback against São José on Thursday night, the winger spoke to the local press confirming he wouldn’t leave the club in January.
But his great performance, which put him as the top scorer of Arena do Grêmio, was also the reason for him to give a press conference on Friday. And when speaking to local journalists, he actually had a lot to say about talks with Premier League side Everton.
He’s confirmed that manager Carlo Ancelloti called him, as previously reported by the Brazilian press.
“He asked me how I was doing, if I was interested in playing at the club. It’s a great club, a great opportunity. A great coach too, I will surely learn a lot from him,” said Everton Cebolinha (via Globo Esporte).
“I have a friendship with Richarlison, I was able to play together with him. He ended up knowing about Everton’s interest and called me. I was happy, it’s a great club, a great coach too. A coach that whoever plays with him will learn a lot. I am also happy for these contacts.”
Globo Esporte writes that Everton wanted to sign the Brazilian now, but Financial Fair Play was an issue. Now a summer attempt ‘isn’t ruled out’, and the player had some details of how the talks had been going.
“Nothing came to Grêmio, but people linked to the club sought me out, approaching, to find out about the interest. Even for bureaucratic reasons nothing got to Grêmio. It’s something that I try not to disturb myself with.
“I dream of playing in Europe, but I can’t let that anxiety get in the way. At the moment it doesn’t materialise, I’m a Grêmio player. I have to do my best here. I will always try to honour the shirt, until the last game here.”
Meanwhile, Everton’s Fan Services Twitter account published an announcement saying the club have an agreement for the transfer, with the player moving only in the summer.
The tweet was deleted, and a new one went out saying the account had been hacked.
