As Manchester United and Sporting compete to be the most dysfunctional club in this transfer negotiation, Bruno Fernandes is left to wonder what’s going on.

The midfielder’s actual agent is Miguel Pinho, his brother-in-law, but Jorge Mendes was brought in to help the process towards the end of the summer window. The super-agent hasn’t managed to get a transfer over the line, and on Wednesday he said if a move doesn’t happen now then it surely will come the summer.

A Bola today say ‘disaster’ strengthens Manchester United’s chances to sign Bruno. It seems like they’re referring on the pitch woes, although it’s not clear if they mean Sporting or the English club.

The Portuguese newspaper once again states that after being far apart, the two clubs have made moves to come together in recent days. There’s a new-ish verbal proposal of €55m plus a further €10m in ‘easily attainable’ bonuses.

A Bola believe there’s now ‘decisive hours’ on the transfer, with Sporting holding the power, presumably because it’s they who now have to compromise.

Bruno continues to be professional, yet A Bola say the train only passes once, and in this case it would be twice after the failed Tottenham effort in the summer. He’s said to have a ‘verbal agreement’ on the rough details of personal terms.

Record are very positive and say Bruno ‘most likely’ played his last game for Sporting against SC Braga on Tuesday evening, with it being expected he won’t be available to the club’s manager, Silas, for the Maritimo match.

According to their own information, Record say Sporting are ‘inclined’ to let the player leave so they can receive money to help them invest in others, for this season and those ahead.

Record have different figures on the current offer. They say Sporting don’t want to let the player go for less than €60m ‘fixed’ with potentially €10m in bonus payments. Manchester United are said to have offered €50m plus €20m in bonuses. It’s stated the difference is still big but is ‘surpassable’.

O Jogo say Bruno is ‘anxious’, waiting to see what will happen, and they also believe the clubs have come closer in their positions… but there is still no ‘white smoke’.
