Earlier this week, Real Madrid announced the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Reinier, with a reported fee of €30m for the former Flamengo starlet.
This is one more teenager the Galacticos have taken from Brazil, following the moves of Rodrygo and Vinícius Junior in the past couple of years.
But the Santiago Bernabeu side weren’t alone in the race for Reinier, since the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool were all in for him.
This information was brought by the player’s father, Mauro Carvalho, in an interview with Cadena Ser this Tuesday. He claimed he was contacted by several clubs before Real Madrid found a deal for the transfer.
“There were contacts with Barça, but very weak, nothing as strong as Real, who came and made the offer. There were also contacts with Juventus, Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia and Ajax,” Mauro Carvalho told Cadena Ser (via Sport).
In fact, Liverpool were first linked to Reinier quite some time ago. Sport Witness covered claims from Aprill 2018 when the Reds ‘started talks’ for the Brazilian.
Arsenal’s interest may be related to their appointment of Edu, a move which has led to the club, reportedly at least, taking a bigger interest in Brazilians.
