Everton are one of three Premier League clubs interested in a move for midfielder Nabil Bentaleb this month.
The former Tottenham man is out of favour at Schalke and is yet to make an appearance in the Bundesliga this season despite 22 games last season.
His future appears to be away from the club, and a return to the Premier League has been mooted in the January transfer window.
Foot Mercato cover the situation today and explain that the midfielder has ‘no real future’ in Gelsenkirchen.
Several clubs have been in contact with the 25-year-old since the start of the transfer window, and he is ‘impatiently waiting’ for the situation to resolve itself.
According to the website, Everton are among those interested in the player, but they are yet to make their move.
The Blues are on the hunt for a new midfielder this month, with injuries having decimated their options in the position, and Bentaleb could help them resolve their lack of depth.
At the minute Everton’s interest appears to be just that, with Foot Mercato reporting they ‘could move’ for a midfielder by the end of January.
That suggests that Bentaleb is a player they have on the backburner at this moment in time.
They are not the only club interested, with Crystal Palace, who are the ‘hottest’ on him, and another unnamed Premier League club keen.
Lyon are also admirers, but they are focused on adding offensive reinforcements, and so Bentaleb is not an ‘immediate priority’ for them.
