Aston Villa have agreed on a deal with AC Milan to loan goalkeeper Pepe Reina until the end of the season.
Villa are on the hunt for a new goalkeeper this month after losing first-choice Tom Heaton to a long-term injury last week.
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Reina quickly emerged as a target, although they needed to convince AC Milan to let the 37-year-old leave.
That is something they have now done, with both Sky Sports Italia and Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that they have agreed on a six-month loan deal with the Italian club.
According to Sky, this deal will include a purchase option for Aston Villa, who managed to ‘unlock’ the deal by guaranteeing Reina first-team football.
He is looking to earn himself a call up to the Spain squad for Euro 2020 this summer, according to Gazzetta, and needs to be playing regularly to achieve that.
Gazzetta believe that Reina is yet to find an agreement with Milan to finalise the move to Aston Villa.
Sky, however, insist that has been sorted after his agent spent yesterday at ‘Casa Milan’.
The Italian side certainly seem to think a deal is close, with both sources claiming that they are already eyeing up replacements for the Spaniard.
