L’Arena takes a stock of the goalkeeping situation at Chievo, including that of Andrea Seculin, who is currently on loan at Sampdoria.
The Serie B side have the services of Adrian Šemper (on loan from Dinamo Zagreb), Michele Nardi and Elia Caprile as their three goalkeepers.
It’s claimed Caprile is on the radar of Leeds United and the report’s headline states the 18-year-old is ‘close’ to the Championship side.
Marco Silvestri left Chievo for the English side in 2014 and returned to Italy when Hellas Verona signed him in 2017. The teenager could follow Silvestri’s footsteps and make a switch to Elland Road.
According to the report, the hypothesis of a new contract for Caprile was never considered.
Apart from Marcelo Bielsa’s side, Norwich City also observed Caprile for a long time, but it’s Leeds who are now leading the race to acquire the young keeper’s services.
L’Arena claims it’s unlikely Caprile will continue in Italy because he already has a ‘foot and a half on the plane to Leeds’. He will be handed a long-term contract at the Championship side and is expected to work with the U23s initially.
Meanwhile, Il Secolo XIX reports (via TuttoMercatoWeb) another Serie B side Spezia Calcio have been offered a young striker from Leeds, although no name is given.
