It was Portuguese newspaper Record who broke the news about West Ham’s attempt to sign Gedson Fernandes, saying the Hammers would be in Lisbon to try to close a deal this week.
But it’s funny how things work in journalism, because today, they have very little information on this case, and mostly cover what’s coming from the English press.
Record brings a little piece and all they can say is that the ‘ideal scenario’ for Benfica would be the permanent sale of the midfielder.
However, the Eagles are still to get an ‘interesting’ bid for Gedson, wanting at least €30m. That’s why a loan with a buying option sounds more likely.
A Bola brings a bigger piece, although they mostly cover the news from the English press as well.
What they have to say independently is that West Ham are trying to get Gedson on a loan deal of one and a half seasons, and their big advantage is that the player isn’t getting enough playing time in Lisbon.
The newspaper takes the €28m transfer of Pablo Fornals as an example of how much West Ham can pay for a midfielder, but says the club will try to get the price as low as they can.
Regarding Everton, A Bola only has a few lines saying the Toffees are also in the race, however, they seem to be behind their Premier League rivals.
