Christian Eriksen has been linked with a potential move to Inter Milan for some months. With his contract expiring at the end of June he’ll be able to leave Tottenham on a free transfer, should no renewal or move come before then.
The Italian media originally reported Inter were set to wait and try and get the player without a transfer fee, then at the end of last week there were some claims of a January transfer. That was picked up by the Danish media and presented as a deal which was very close.
Sunday and Monday saw several Italian reports stating Antonio Conte would prefer to sign Arturo Vidal in the winter market, and leave Eriksen until the summer.
Inter director Giuseppe Marotta has now been quizzed on the situation, speaking ahead of his club’s match against Napoli this evening.
Marotta is quoted by TMW as saying: “Very often, Inter and important names are linked. On the one hand it flatters us, but I have to say that we’ve had no contact with Tottenham. He expires in June, he is an excellent player but the race belongs to many teams as is normal for important players. I’m not here to say that we’ll start negotiations, but I simply say that he is an interesting player.”
That would likely rule out the prospect of a transfer being close, and the Inter chief also makes it sound like claims of them looking more to the summer are correct.
