As the signing of Bafétimbi Gomis showed, Marseille were in desperate need of a striker after the sale of Michy Batshuayi.
However, the French club were always looking for more, and FootballGhana claim to have information pointing towards the Ligue 1 side trying to resign one of their former players.
The Ghanaian website claim Marseille made a late £11m offer for the 25-year-old on transfer deadline day, which was rejected by Aston Villa’s owner Dr Tony Xia.
The Chinese investor had previously stated his striker wasn’t going anywhere, and it seems he is a man true to his word.
No more rumors re JA. We will make him a successful career with club’s journey to be greatest club again! https://t.co/VvNYRZ7s0c

Attempting to regain promotion straight away, Aston Villa currently sit 17th in the Championship, picking up 10 points from their first 10 games, with Ayew scoring one goal in eight appearances.
