Every young player dreams of playing for their country at some point and for Brighton’s Steven Alzate, it is no different.
The youngster has broken through into Brighton’s first-team this season, with Graham Potter electing to hand him his debut back in September in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle.
He’s impressed ever since, making ten appearances in all competitions to date, including six starts from the eight times he’s been in the squads for the Premier League.
His performances for Brighton have earned plenty of praise and this week saw him called up to the Colombia squad by manager Carlos Queiroz for the games against Peru and Ecuador over the international break.
The Brighton youngster recently admitted his shock at his inclusion and claimed that his call up was a case of him making history.
“The boys made me feel welcome,” Canal RCN report him saying.
“Yesterday I had to sing for the debut in the National Team; I sang ‘Stand By Me’, some of them knew it.
“They told me that I didn’t need to bring anything, that they gave me everything then I just brought a small suitcase with the boots.
“Since I was little, this was my dream; it is a dream come true. I am very happy to be here; I do not see myself playing with these world-class players.”
