Juventus tried their best during the summer window, but were still unable to get Mattia Perin out of the club.
The goalkeeper is very much surplus to requirements and the Turin side would like to get his wages off their own accounts and pass them on to someone else. Juve have proven in recent years just how well they can work in the transfer market, but getting an injured goalkeeper out was beyond even their skillset.
Aston Villa were repeatedly linked during the summer window, with the newly promoted Premier League club looking to sign a goalkeeper. At one point, the Italian media were confident a move could to Villa Park could happen, and then, like all the other options, it fell apart.
Il Bianconero now report Juventus are still looking to push Perin away, and Benfica have taken themselves out of the equation. That means the club currently ‘hopes’ Aston Villa, Sporting or AS Monaco will return for the player in January.
Given Villa signed Tom Heaton from Burnley at the beginning of August, perhaps Juve should strike that option off the list too.
