After selling Harry Maguire to Manchester United for a world-record fee for a defender, Leicester City filled the void left by the England international with Caglar Soyuncu, who was already in their squad.
The Turkish defender has impressed during the opening weeks of the season for the Foxes and it looks like Brendan Rodgers will continue to partner him with Jonny Evans.
However, it seems Leicester City tried bring in a replacement for Maguire during the last transfer window, with Lokomotiv Moscow defender Solomon Kvirkvelia’s agent confirming the Premier League side made an attempt to sign his client.
Speaking to Sport Business Gazetta, via Championat, Mamuka Dzguheli said the 27 year old rejected Leicester City because the central defender wants to win the Russian league title with Lokomotiv: “Leicester offered €10m for Solomon but he rejected it because he wants to become a champion with Lokomotiv. He said he wanted to stay at the club for the time being.
“He feels he has a debt to pay to the club and the staff. He believes he will still get great offers after the end of this season.”
The Georgian defender joined Lokomotiv Moscow from Rubin Kazan in 2017 and he’s become one of the most important players at the club.
Kvirkvelia still has two years remaining on his current contract with the Russian club, but there could be interest in the player in January if he continues the form he’s shown in recent months.
