Leroy Sané to Bayern Munich was one of the true transfer sagas of this summer and is likely to carry on until next year as well.
The Manchester City man looked to be on the verge of joining the German giants, who made it clear they wanted to sign him.
However, he then injured himself in the Community Shield win over Liverpool, damaging the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and thus scuppering a return to his homeland.
Bayern have not hidden the fact they were trying to sign Sané this summer, but it seems things were as far along as reports suggested.

According to Süddeutsche Zeitung and Christian Falk, outgoing Bayern President Uli Hoeneß confirmed today he held talks with the Manchester City forward.
He also admitted Sané was at the top of Bayern’s wish list this summer, although he would not reveal any details on the potential move.
On the face of it, that’s not much of an update but what it does show is that the negotiations were pretty advanced between the two parties.
It would have been wrong of Hoeneß to speak to Sané without Manchester City’s permission and it suggests there must have been an agreement in place between the two clubs.
City certainly wouldn’t be happy about Hoeneß talking to Sané if there wasn’t as it would constitute tapping up from the Germans.
It now remains to be seen if they reignite their interest in future, although that will depend heavily on how Sané recovers.
