Europa League clashes normally attract a big number of scouts, but that wasn’t really the case for Vitória de Guimarães and Steaua Bucharest last night.
Only seven clubs travelled to watch the game in Portugal, and as usual, Manchester United were one of them.
It’s newspaper A Bola who reports the Red Devils’ presence in the North of Portugal. They say the Manchester United scouts ‘wasn’t only gathering player data, but also evaluating potential Europa League opponents’.
Vitória de Guimarães won the match 1-0, getting the qualification for the group stage. But it turns out they’re not facing United, since the Portuguese side are in Group F, and the Red Devils are in Group L.
It was a very disputed game with not a lot to highlight, with the only player who stood out being the Brazilian winger Davidson. But since he’s already 28, it’s hard to think he would be a target for Man United at this age.
The Red Devils keep a scout in the North of Portugal watching Porto, Braga and often Vitória as well. So perhaps that could be just one more game they’ve had an eye on.
Sevilla, Chelsea, Atalanta, Montpellier, Parma and Dinamo Bucharest were the other clubs who had scouts at this match.
