Spanish newspaper AS have really jumped on the ‘what is Mourinho doing with Rooney’ bandwagon on Tuesday and have two articles covering the subject.
One of which is a column from Guillem Balague, who says Wayne Rooney can’t be Manchester United captain, and shouldn’t be on the pitch, but Mourinho is reluctant to drop him.
Separately, AS mention it in another article which looks at Mourinho’s failure with Manchester United so far.
AS say that Mourinho is living a nightmare similar to his final season with Chelsea. The only difference, according to the Spanish newspaper, is that at Manchester United ‘the bomb threatens to explode after only 7 games’, whereas at Chelsea ‘his luck lasted nearly three years’.
It’s clearly not a pro-Mourinho piece.
AS then add that Manchester United fans have pinpointed Rooney as the player most responsible for the debacle, and the newspaper ask: ‘What does the captain have to do for the Portuguese to dare benching him?’
Above the Mourinho and Rooney slating, is another Mourinho slating, this time in the form of Zinedine Zidane praise and lifting the Frenchman above the former Real Madrid manager.
It’s explained Zidane knows how to handle egos, and hasn’t been scared to drop big stars from his team to accommodate the likes of Casemiro, and bring a better balance to the team, with the criticism of Mourinho being that he doesn’t.
There’s probably a lot of glee behind the writing of these articles, and Mourinho will hope he can stop the Spanish press having fun soon.
