Whenever a transfer is heating up for a major Bundesliga club, you can be sure that Bild will refer to it as ‘poker’.
That’s what they do with Leroy Sane at the end of this week. Bayern Munich’s chase for the Manchester City star has been going on all summer and had all kinds of dramas thrown into it by the German media.
The latest slant is that after months of publicly talking about signing Sane, Bayern’s chiefs have decided to keep their mouth shut, out of fear of irritating Manchester City too much.
However, nobody told Niko Kovac who carried on the usual loose-lips style and said he’s confident the signing will happen.
That led to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge going public with criticism of the comments, and Kovac himself having to apologise to Pep Guardiola, Bayern, and also publicly. That apology was sent out via the Bundesliga club’s official channels, to make sure everyone saw.
It’s a farcical power game at Bayern given all that’s already been said on the potential transfer.
Bild report ‘official offers’ have been sent to both Manchester City and their player, although they have no figures on either, and no indication of where things stand.
