It’s now time for the Portuguese press to react to the last developments of the Thiago Almada saga.
Local outlets expected Pep Guardiola’s side to sign the player and loan him out to Sporting, so it’s a big deal that the Lions will not get him.
Since Manchester City officials confirmed they’ve left the race when speaking to the Argentine press yesterday, the Portuguese media won’t disagree with it.
Record comes up with a story saying Almada isn’t joining Sporting, ‘at least not this summer’.
They don’t rule out the possibility that Manchester City try to sign him in January, when it gets closer to the end of his contract. But for that to happen, the player would have to reject all the renewal offers he gets from Velez Sarsfield.
Thiago Almada is being offered a new deal which will increase his release clause from €16m to €25m.
Newspaper A Bola says his agent, Augustin Jimenez, has travelled back to Argentina to sort the situation out. It’s said Manchester City haven’t contacted him again, since they wouldn’t pay more than the €12m they’ve offered.
