At the beginning of the month, we brought you an update on a potential return to La Liga for Guido Carrillo.
The Argentine striker spent last season on loan at Leganes from Southampton and, despite scoring just six goals in all competitions they wanted him back this summer.
In fact, AS reported that they were chasing another loan deal and were willing to offer a ‘juicy economic investment’ to make it happen.
Southampton, though, aren’t playing ball. They want a permanent transfer and AS reports today that they are not going to move away from that stance.
According to the newspaper, Leganes have been in contact with the Saints over Carillo, and the Premier League club still want a permanent sale. They’re looking to recoup ‘part of the £20m’ they spent on the striker in January 2018.
They fail to give a specific figure, but it’s easy to imagine they want a decent fee for the Argentine nonetheless.
The newspaper believes that having Mauricio Pellegrino as their manager, he took Carrillo to Southampton, and the player’s familiarity with the club make a move ‘easier’, but it’s clear the asking price is a stumbling block to this move.
Until Southampton lower their demands, which seems unlikely, or Leganes can work out some sort of deal, it looks like Carrillo will be returning to the South Coast.
