The Galicia team were facing Athletic Club Bilbao, and as soon as Joselu went down it was evident it was more than playacting.

The local media in Galicia were originally worried it could be a longer term issue, and Marca report on Tuesday that Joselu has ‘sprained his medial collateral ligament’.

That isn’t quite as bad as it sounds, and the Spanish newspaper say Joselu should be back in a couple of months. Returning mid November would give Joselu chance to get some football in before the Spanish winter break, and mean his first half of the season isn’t a write-off.

That’s important for the player, Depor, and also Stoke City. The Spaniard almost certainly doesn’t have a future at Stoke under Mark Hughes, and so the better he does in Spain, the better the possible transfer outcome for both Joselu and the English club.
