Matthijs de Ligt’s future has turned into a true transfer saga.
Barcelona thought they had the signing pretty much done but then things started to fall apart. It was claimed the Ajax defender was looking for Barca to make him a better offer on personal terms, and the Catalan club weren’t prepared to do so.
With Mino Raiola in the middle of things it was always likely to end up this way.
It was reported today that the agent is in Paris, with the assumption being he’d be speaking to PSG officials about taking his client there.
Ronald de Boer doesn’t think it’s the best choice to make, and would prefer to see his compatriot sign for Barcelona or Manchester City. He feels the style of football at both of those clubs would suit De Ligt better, and would be similar to what he’s used to having come through the Ajax system.
On the potential move to PSG, De Boer is quoted by Marca saying: “It’s a very good team with great players, it’s a team that does not play like he’s used to, it’s different, philosophy is important, and he’s closer to Barça, and if you ask me, I prefer Barça or City.”
Manchester City haven’t been linked to De Ligt much recently, and if they’re keen, but keeping it quiet, now is probably the time to do something.
