Besides being reportedly close on signing River Plate youngster Santiago Sosa, it appears Everton could soon be making a move for another player in Argentina’s U20 national team.
A report from Marca in Argentina today claims the Toffees were impressed with Adolfo Gaich’s performances during the U20 World Cup, and would be ready to trigger his release clause at San Lorenzo.
Everton’s board would be keen on making a quick deal for the youngster and pay his US$15m price tag, which would help them beat the competition from other clubs, with Italian side Genoa getting a mention.
However, Marca also published some quotes from the player’s agent Pablo Cairo with La Clarineta, which didn’t exactly confirm the talks with the Toffees.
“We spoke with clubs in Italy. The Everton issue isn’t clear yet. The truth is that Gaich is on the list of many clubs, but still nothing concrete. Looking to the future, one would like him to go through the European market. I think one has to look for that to find the fullness of the player”.
The 20-year-old has been a regular starter for San Lorenzo this season, but missed several games due to a broken nose and also his call ups for the national team’s young squads.
During the U20 World Cup, he’s scored three goals and made one assist.
In the round-of-16 against Mali, Gaich scored a goal and also converted his penalty in the shootout, only for his side to end up getting knocked out.
