Liverpool and Tottenham are among the clubs interested in Maxi Gomez, reports La Voz de Galicia on Wednesday.
Both Premier League clubs have been linked with the Celta Vigo striker recently and La Voz, not ones to dramatise things, claim the player’s entourage has ‘confirmed’ contact from both the Reds and Spurs in recent months.
Gomez has a €50m buyout clause, and Celta are prepared to come down from that figure… but not by too much. They believe that given the prices strikers go for on the current market, they don’t need to drop the amount a lot.
The Uruguayan hasn’t yet made up his mind about his plans for next season, and until he’s clear on where he wants to play, with further interest from Spain and Italy, not a great deal can happen.
Celta’s striker is 22 years of age and he scored 13 La Liga goals last season, as well as providing five assists.
If interest is genuine from either Liverpool or Tottenham then they’d surely see him, at least initially, as a back-up option, and that may impact upon the Gomez’s preference.
West Ham remain keen, having made attempts in the last two windows.
