The future of Maxi Gomez is very much in doubt, with Celta Vigo’s local media believing an exit this summer is likely.
This week a Galician radio station claimed Barcelona had made a €25m offer for the striker and seen it refused, but this was later denied by media closer to the Catalan club.
On Wednesday, La Voz de Galicia go over the player’s situation and the widespread interest in him. Gomez remains an ‘object of desire’ for West Ham, after they made attempts in both of the last two transfer windows.
It’s claimed the Hammers offered €25m during the summer and initiated contact again in the winter market. At both times, the Premier League club were referred to the player’s €50m buyout clause.
La Voz say it may be different now, but Celta don’t want to come down too far from that figure.
West Ham will also face serious competition, with Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Tottenham and ‘important clubs in Italy’ all said to be keen.
Gomez himself hasn’t yet decided what he wants to do, West Ham will have to hope he values their persistence.
