Two days ago, Catalan newspaper Sport reported that Real Madrid have set their sights on Benfica’s Florentino Luís, who is dubbed the ‘new Pogba’ and has a release clause of €60m.
Having come up through the ranks of the club’s youth system, the 19-year-old was promoted to the first team earlier this year and has so far made nine appearances in all competitions, which includes seven starts.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims Los Blancos are not the only club chasing the central midfielder as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are also after the teenager.
It’s further claimed the Ligue 1 winners have already been informed about the conditions for a transfer, while Pep Guardiola’s side has sent two scouts to Lisbon on two occasions to watch Florentino in action for his club.
A Bola explains Real Madrid are the latest European giants to join the race for the player’s signature.
Benfica, on the other hand, have plans to retain him beyond the summer transfer window, holding off Manchester City and the others.
Even though Florentino has a contract until 2023, they still want to offer him a new deal so they can double his release clause from €60m to €120m.
