Ilkay Gundogan’s current deal at Manchester City will expire in 2020.
Pep Guardiola has made clear that he wants the midfielder to commit his future to the club, but the Germany international has so far not signed an extension.
FcInterNews claims his contract situation has resulted in a positive ‘blitz’ as Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio is chasing the 28-year-old.
It’s claimed the player has been on the Nerrazzurri radar for a while as Manchester City rejected the Serie A outfit’s approach for Gundogan last summer.
However, it’s stated Guardiola has changed his mind and is open to the idea of sanctioning the midfielder’s sale in the summer after there was ‘black smoke’ between Gundogan and his employer when it came to contract negotiations.
Inter are ready to take advantage of the situation and have tabled a four-year contract worth €6m per season.
For the deal to take shape, the English champions are demanding €25m, but the report explains there is a possibility of the price being reduced since Gundogan will have only a year left on his contract in the summer.
‘Confidence grows’ for Ausilio and Inter due to Gundogan’s contract situation at City, coupled with his eagerness to embark on a new challenge next season.
Earlier this month we covered claims from German newspaper Bild, who said: ‘His hesitation should not be much more than contract poker. A contract extension is probably only a matter of time.’
